FAQs 21K Valencia Cancellation

Medio Maratón Valencia
You can choose from among the following three options. Please note that your choice cannot be undone:
  • Exchange your entry for a place on the 2021 edition (24th of October 2021)
    • You will not have to pay a penny.
    • You keep all your entry rights (option to change runner, refund in the event of medically certified injury, and so on).
    • You keep any extras you contracted (cancellation insurance, medal engraving, etc.).
  • Full refund of your entry
    • Any services you contracted will also be refunded in full.
    • If you chose to make a charitable donation with your entry, this will not be refunded. Instead, all the €3 donations will be paid over to PayaSOSpital — this year’s charity — as planned, as will any other donations.
  • Renounce refund of the entry fee for the trial as a token of your support for the Organisation (which has worked for months on an event that has now been cancelled).
    • Includes a guaranteed place on the 2021 edition (24th of October 2021).
    • You can enter by paying the price set for the first tranche of entries during the special offer period.

Manage your entry

If you are entered for the 2020 Valencia Half-Marathon, you will have received an e-mail using the same address you registered with. That e-mail tells you the steps you should follow. If you do not see our e-mail, check your ‘trash’ and ‘spam’ trays just in case your mail server has sent it there. If you still cannot find it, consult the steps HERE.

 

Remember, in any case you must enter your ID (DNI, Passport Number, as the case may be), your Date of Birth, and your e-mail address so that we can check that it really is you who is choosing a given option for your entry.

You can choose what to do with your entry up until the 31st of August 2020. If you do not choose any of the options by then, we will automatically enter you for the 2021 race edition (24th October 2021) and you can continue managing that entry next year (Change of runner, refund in the event of injury, and so on).

If you choose a refund of your entry fee before the 31st of August 2020, we will ask you for the bank account number where you want to receive the money. Even if you entered using a credit card, we ask you for your bank account number so that you can choose where you want to receive the refund. We do this because you may have changed your bank and/or your credit card may have expired or have been lost in the meantime. Take care to write out and check all the numbers of your bank account. This will help ensure there are no hitches in you getting your refund.

We will transfer the refund on the 15th of September 2020 and you will receive the money in your bank account a few days later.

Of course. Although we do not know what ceiling will be placed on the number of runners next year, if you do decide to use your 2020 entry for the 2021 edition, you can be sure of a place. Furthermore, you will not have to pay a penny extra even if the price for next year’s event goes up. Rest assured, you will have your place on the 2021 Valencia Half-Marathon!

Yes — our Self-Service Area lets you change the options you want. We will even ask you again about your race shirt size and other options.

At the moment, we are waiting until September before taking a final decision on the Marathon. We hope to hold it but if this cannot be, at the very least we shall offer the same options as the ones for the Half-Marathon. That said, you need to decide before the 31st of August 2020 what you want to do with your entry for the Half-Marathon.

If you choose a refund, we will repay you the part covering the Half-Marathon and with any luck, we will see you enjoying the Marathon on the 6th of December 2020.

If you paid for Cancellation Insurance when you signed up, this will remain valid in 2021 if you run that race. If you choose the refund option, we will also refund the insurance premium you paid.

In the light of the situation this year, both the European circuit of Gold Label half-marathons and the circuit of Spain’s best half-marathons have confirmed that the European series will begin in 2021 and that the time for completing the Spanish trials will be lengthened by one year. This means you will have no problems on this score.

All free entries from sponsors and collaborating brands whether given out directly or through competitions or similar mechanisms are hereby cancelled. Given that these were invitation entries, we cannot issue a refund given that nothing was paid for them .Likewise, we cannot transfer the entry to 2021.

If Luanvi gave you a code and you entered for the race after making a purchase at the 2019 Runners’ Fair, this entry will be valid for 2021 and you can be sure of a race bib for next year’s trial. However, we cannot make a refund because your purchase covered sports materials, not a race bib. The race bib was a gift after you made your purchase.

FAQs – Manage your 21km entry

The Organisers of the Valencia Half-Marathon Trinidad Alfonso EDP make a Self-Service Area available to all runners entered for the race. Runners can perform various entry management tasks in this area and request the services offered for the trial, all of which are spelt out in the regulations for the two races.

By making this request, the runner can quickly and efficiently check the details of his entry whenever needed.

If you want to change some of the details of your entry (telephone number, e-mail address, bib text, and so on), you can do so here.

Change details of my entry

The Organisers will allow bib name changes up until the 1st of October 2020 in the case of the Half-Marathon. This date may be extended should the Organisers deem this necessary.

An entered runner may request a change of entry holder. He will then receive a code for a new entry. The code should be given to the new runner who must then complete his entry (in keeping with the price in force for the tranche of entries, plus a €5 management fee). Once this has been paid, the first runner will receive a full refund and will be struck from the race.

Note: If the new runner does not complete the entry within three days, the code will be cancelled and the first entry will remain valid. The process for changing the runner‘s name may be repeated.

If an entered runner is injured before the race, he may request a refund of his subscription before the 1st of October for the Half-Marathon. A medical certificate (NOT a physiotherapist’s certificate) must be attached for the Organisers’ consideration. Once the certificate has been validated and accepted, the runner will receive a full refund of his entry within 3 days. This option cannot be reversed and the runner will not be allowed to repeat the entry.  

All participants can contract refund insurance if they so wish during the registration process. This insurance policy will allow them to recover 80% of the entry costs without having to give any justification for doing so as long as the claim is made before the 1st of October for the Half-Marathon. The only sum not refundable is the RFEA Day Licence.

If you have improved your time in a 10km, Half-Marathon, or Marathon race that is officially certified, you can request a change of Starting Box for a faster one. This option will be free up until the 1st of October. From this date on, such a change will carry a fee of €15 to cover ‘Bib Reprinting and Administrative Costs’.

If you cannot go to The Runners’ Fair to pick up your bib and Runner’s Bag, you can authorise someone to do so for you. This option is free and you can request it simply by sending us an e-mail and a copy of the DNI/Passport of the person who will be picking up the bib and bag on your behalf. You can make such a request up until 3 P.M. of the Saturday before the race.

When you visit the Runners’ Expo 21K at the Feria Valencia Exhibition Centre, the race expo of the Valencia Half Marathon Trinidad Alfonso Zurich, you will be able to pick up your runner’s goodie bag, which will contain interesting and useful products.

The app lets you track the race progress of any runner you choose. Live Tracking lets you follow the race progress of athletes in the Valencia Half Marathon, and the speed at which he or she is running, based on the chip at the bib (see the users guide below).

There is a direct link to the web site so that you can see the latest news on the trial and stay abreast of developments in the world’s fastest half-marathon.

Live Rankings

The Live Rankings shows during the race the (unofficial) live positions so that you have a fast indication about your ranking. Once the trial has ended, the app will give you direct access to the race results and classifications for the Valencia Half Marathon.

Medical Tips – Half Marathon

Medical tips to help you safely run the Valencia Half-Marathon

The 27th of October marks the 29th Valencia-Trinidad Alfonso EDP Half-Marathon. We want to ensure that you safely complete the race.

Many of you will have run in other events but for others, competing in a half-marathon will be new. Whatever your case, here are some general tips to make sure that your experience of the trial is both an enjoyable and unforgettable one.

Needless to say, you should work at meeting your training goals and be aware of what you are up against.

1. Health & Safety come first and foremost

We want you to be in tip-top condition on the day of the trial. Now is a good moment to go for a medical check-up if you have not already done so. Just as you have medical check-ups in the workplace, so you need to have one before running a half-marathon. This is to ensure that you are in fine fettle before training for the race. Nutritional deficits, anaemia, changes in electrolyte balances and other minor problems that might otherwise go unnoticed can be picked up by simple tests. If you have never had a medical check-up, now is the moment to consult a specialist, who will recommend suitable tests.

If you are 40 or over, or suffer from some kind of chronic disease (hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia [an abnormal amount of lipids], and so on), it is vital that you mention your interest in taking part in the trial to your doctor.

2. Nutrition in keeping with your training programme

What we eat and drink has a direct impact on our performance — not only in the days running up to the race but also in the months of training beforehand.

Your are going to make a big physical effort, which is why you need to take care with your nutrition. Maybe now is a good moment to acquire good eating habits and observe a balanced diet.

Avoid alcohol and drugs.

Drink sufficient liquids throughout your training, not just in the days leading up to the race.

Ensure you have a varied diet based largely on carbohydrates and proteins. Avoid saturated fats and ensure that any fats you do consume are unsaturated ones, such as those found in olive oil and ‘blue’ (oily) fish.

To sum up: Follow a healthy, well-balanced diet.

3. Be sensible when it comes to training

A half-marathon is a tough race. It requires training based on constancy and gradually rising intensity.

Incorporate rests and recovery periods, especially after intense training spells. Over-training only leads to injuries.

Now is the time to thoroughly test your kit — running shoes, running shirt, gels, socks. Experimenting on the big day with any item of kit can bring all your training to naught. You have sufficient time to test each and every item of your kit so that everything goes well during the race.

4. Do not get carried away

The half-marathon is a much faster race than a marathon. We often tend to get carried away, running too fast and aggressively. In the heat of the moment, it is all too easy to forget the pace we got used to during our training. This in turn can lead to very disappointing performance during the trial.

Use your head when you run. The cheering from bystanders should not make us run faster than what we have trained for. We recommend you gradually raise your pace and err on the side of prudency when doing so.

Be very careful over the last kilometre of the race. Statistically speaking, this is the stretch over which cardio-vascular attacks are highest. Sprinting to the Finish when you have already run 20 kilometres is a bad idea. We want to see you reach the Finish with a smile on your face.

Remember: Listen to your body: Stay healthy!

Incorporate stretching sessions in your training plan. You should not only strengthen your legs but also do simple exercises like squats and curls, which work on your core and buttocks, boosting your performance.

If you feel pain or unwell during these months of training, it is important to slacken off or even take a break for a few days. If you do not begin to feel better, consult a doctor as soon as possible. You may feel that you are wasting your time but the break will pay off in the long run.

These simple tips can be summed up in two words: COMMON SENSE. You have already won half the battle if you make sure your lifestyle is in keeping with your training. Be sensible when it comes to preparing for the race!

Tips for nutrition and liquid intake

The 30th Valencia Half Marathon Trinidad Alfonso EDP will be held on the 24th of October 2021. We want to make sure that you safely complete the race.

To successfully run the half-marathon you need to have a proper training plan supervised by a professional . The plan needs to take full account of both the training work load and recovery periods. You also need to take nutrition into account during your training. In addition, you must have a good race strategy on the big day — which means properly pacing yourself and managing your food intake and nutrition during the trial. That is why we have prepared these tips on nutrition and liquid intake.

There will be 5 refreshment points along the Valencia Half-Marathon circuit and one at the Finish.

  • Km 5: water + Powerade
  • Km 10: water + Powerade
  • Km 14: gel — Enervit
  • Km 15: water + Powerade
  • Km 18: water + Powerade
  • Finish: water + Powerade + fruit + Enervit energy bar

Nutritional information on refreshments

Powerade: will be handed out in a beaker containing approximately 150 ml, which is roughly 8 grams of carbohydrates.

Enervit Gel: contains 17.8gr of carbohydrates.

Key points:

In the hour before the race, drink about half a litre of the sports beverage, which contains between 50 and 75 grams of carbohydrates per litre.

During the race, you must drink between 30 and 60 grams of carbohydrates per hour (the amount depends on your weight).

You should drink between 60 and 80 cl. per hour (wherever possible, little by little, not all in one go).

Caffeine boosts performance but taking more of it does not help. Taking between 3 and 6mg per kilo of one’s weight seems to get optimum results. Take the equivalent of one or two coffees 45 minutes before the race start, and the equivalent of another coffee 20/40 minutes after starting the trial. It is vital that you have tried this before in easier races and without ill effects.

Mineral salts are important to prevent dehydration. Enervit and Powerade gels contain these minerals but we also recommend you take an extra mineral capsule for each hour of the race with at least 20 cl. of water (never take the capsule on its own).

Bear in mind the various combination of liquid and food refreshment so that you can act on the tips above.

Worked Example:

A runner with a pace of 5’/km will pass the stretch between refreshment points each 25’. Let us suppose that he weighs 80kg and needs 60 gr/carbohydrates per hour.

  • Km 5, 25’: 2 beakers of Powerade: 300ml of liquid and 16 grams of carbohydrates
  • Km 10, 50’: 2 beakers of Powerade: 300ml of liquid and 16 grams of carbohydrates
  • Km 14, 70’: Enervit gel: 17.8 grams of carbohydrates
  • Km 15, 75’: 150 ml water + 1 beaker of Powerade + 1 mineral salts capsule: 300 ml of liquid and 8 grams of carbohydrates
  • Km 18, 90’: 2 beakers of Powerade: 300ml of liquid and 16 grams of carbohydrates
