Race registrations continue to grow for the biggest running races in Valencia, la Ciudad del Running

12 April, 2016

Valencia and its 3 biggest running races of the year; Trinidad Alfonso Marathon, Half Marathon and the 10k, organized by SD Correcaminos and the Valencian Government, will bring thousands of runners from around the world. The dates for the races in Valencia are 23rd of October for the Half Marathon and the 20th of November for the Marathon and 10K. Thousands of runners have already signed up online taking advantage of deals and early bird tickets.

2 months after opening, registrations for the 2016 Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Marathon have soared to more than 6,400 athletes; this is a 66% increase on the same time last year. This spike in registrations is down to the increased recognition and participation from international runners who want to run in the winter sun and blue skies of the Mediterranean in November. More than 1,500 international runners are signed up as of today; most of them are repeat runners from 2015.

In the 3rd week of November, Valencia will be transformed into the running capital of the world. Spanish runners and international runners will take to the streets with the objective of finishing their 42.195 meters. Many of the runners should be able to focus purely on running as their travel; hotel and race tickets have all been taken care of on www.welcometovalencia.com where they have bought race packages that cover their hotel, flight and race entry.

Running alongside the full marathon is the 10k race. The 10K has over 800 runners signed up already, 200 of which are from outside of Spain, these figures are double those of last year on this date. The 10K is always slightly slower to fill its places than its big brothers but you can expect that a month before the event, tickets will be hard to come by. The 10K has become an excellent stepping stone for runners who are starting out and may build up to the Half Marathon and Full Marathon one day. Athletes coming to running in the full marathon can book a 10K registration for friends and family and get a discount.

The Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Half Marathon may be the middle sibling but it certainly does not harbor any jealousy for the Full Marathon. The Valencia Half Marathon is the fastest course in the world at the moment. Valencia’s course is great for all levels; Elite runners come here to break records and amateurs come here to get PBs. Valencia is a great destination for first time long-distance runners who just want finish the distance as the course is very very flat and the weather is an average 15ºC in October. 2,600 runners have already signed up, the race organizers recommend that athletes get their tickets booked soon, as they will sell out well before the event.

The number of runners has exploded in Valencia in recent years, what was once a local event has spawned 3 truly international affairs. The Valencia Marathon and Half Marathon were awarded IAAF Gold Label Status, putting the races in the same category as Boston, Chicago and Tokyo. For runners who want a great race, flat course, amazing crowds, an interesting city to stay in, great weather and a chance of getting a PB; Valencia La Ciudad del Running is the place to be.

Valencia is known as La Ciudad del Running for a reason, the good weather and flatness of the city means that thousands of runners hit the parks and streets to train everyday and take part in races. The big running events attract the top runners and records get broken, amateur runners can come and have a great sporting holiday and go home with a medal. Whatever your distance or objective, La Ciudad del Running has it for you.
