Valencia Basket club pays tribute to Trinidad Alfonso Marathon and Half Marathon
The organizers of the races, SD Correcaminos running club and the Valencian Government were joined by representatives of the police, various local bodies from 120 organizations and dozens of the volunteers who help make the races possible. The organizers and supporting cast received a standing ovation from the home crowd who came to watch the match. As an extra bonus; Valencia won the match 97-76, its 20th straight victory.
At half time, SD Correcaminos, the face of the races, accompanied by the Valencia running community, received a heart-felt and rousing applause in recognition of their efforts to help make Valencia the premier running destination in Spain and la Ciudad Del Running.
Vicente Solà, Valencia Basket president, presented a framed picture of the start of the marathon to Valencian Police representatives; Mari Carmen Mariblanca, Jaime García and José Cosín in recognition of their excellent work.
Throughout the ceremony, the Valencia Basket Running Team formed a semi circle to give a wonderful orange backdrop to the proceedings; orange is the color of Valencia. The Basket running team displayed the shield that commemorates each marathon that they run.
The marathon and half marathon teams and supporters joined Pedro Martinez’s team in the thumping victory over their French rivals. This was Valencia’s 20th win in 20 matches and wrapped up the season nicely.
The celebration of the running events with Valencia’s basketball team was a real sign of the commitment that all key actors have in the city towards the marathon and half marathon; it really is a city wide event. Valencia’s basketball team is in rude form over the last few years and is one of the top basketball teams in Europe with many star players; Valencia’s top running events also have star quality by being the fastest races in Spain and two of the premier events in the European running calendar.
