How does the +42KValencia app work?

The Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 the Planet will start on 2 December and you will have until the 5th to complete it. You decide the place and the kilometres you wish to run in each session since, if you wish, you can accumulate kilometres over a few days without having to run the full 42.195 kilometres in one go.

Yes, the Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 the Planet is a cumulative virtual race. This means that, during the participation period (2-5 December 2021) you can accumulate kilometres without having to run all of them in a single go. However, keep in mind that you will only be able to upload one time/session per day.

To register your times/sessions for the Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 the Planet you have 3 different options:

  1. Run with your mobile: Simply access the RACE section on the bottom menu and click on the participate button. Once you have done this and accepted the relevant permissions, you can start recording your race.
  2. Synchronise your heart rate monitor/Strava: You can register one time/session by linking the Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 the Planet app with the Garmin, Polar, Suunto or Strava apps. Once you have finished the session with your heart rate monitor, you simply have to select the device to link and choose the corresponding session. It is important to note that syncing the activity is not automatic.
  3. Upload your times manually: If the above options are not for you, do not worry, you can upload your time manually accrediting its validity by attaching a photo of the session in question.

Very easily, you just have to access the side menu on the app, which is displayed from the top left of the screen, and click on the MY CHALLENGES section. From there you can click on + NEW and set up your private challenge, inviting as many friends as you want.

All the friends you select will be able to participate in your private challenge. An essential condition is that they are runners in the Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet, that is, they are registered on the race app.

In order to join a private challenge you have to receive an invitation from its creator. If your friend has invited you to the challenge, a notification will appear at the top right of the screen. If you enter this tab and accept the invitation, you can start holding sessions to complete the challenge.

The ROAD TO Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet challenges are free virtual challenges that will be opened for participation throughout the period prior to the Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet. You can find them in the CHALLENGES tab on the lower menu in the app, and if you are a finisher in them you will be entered in the raffle for incredible prizes from our sponsors.

In order to provide you with accurate tracking of your journey, we need you to enable the “ALWAYS ALLOW” GPS permission option and also enable BACKGROUND ACTIVITY. You can trust us, we will only track you during your training. Go to the GPS section in the app’s bottom menu and follow the on-screen instructions. If it still does not work properly, we will show you how to configure these permissions from your operating system:

How to enable the permissions on Android: 

To enable the GPS permissions on your Android smartphone, you have to go to:

Settings > Applications > Runnea > Permissions > Location

Once in Location, select the option ALWAYS ALLOW.

  • To enable the background activity, you have to go to:

Settings > Applications > Runnea > Permissions > Battery

Once in Battery, enable the option ALLOW BACKGROUND ACTIVITY.

Depending on the version of your Android operating system, permissions may be managed via a different path.

How to enable permissions on iPhone (iOS):

To enable the GPS permissions on your iPhone smartphone, you need to go to:

Settings > Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet > Location

Once in Location, select the Always option and also enable the option EXACT LOCATION.

The training plan will begin on 16 August. Once this period has started, there will be 16 weeks of specific preparation at the hands of José Garay and CA Serrano in which we will prepare you to arrive in the best possible condition on the day of the race.

To register for your training plan you must go to the section in the lower menu entitled TRAIN. Once there, we will ask you to provide us with your current personal best time (at 10k or 21k) to project your possible time estimate in the Marathon, from which we will offer you a specific training plan. A few minutes after you have selected it, you will be able to start enjoying your plan and carry out the first sessions.

Don’t worry, if you do not have a heart rate monitor you will be equally welcome to the Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet family. However, while a heart rate monitor is not essential, it is highly recommended as many of the exercises will be included in your plans, which have been specifically created by José Garay and CA Serrano, will be performed at a specific pace per kilometre or at a specific heart rate.

At Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 the Planet and the Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso EDP we work on an individual basis so that each runner receives a training plan adapted to their abilities. It is, therefore, very important to know your fitness level and keep it up to date, as this is the only way to achieve individualised monitoring and to achieve an optimal progression to ensure you reach your goal and do so at the best moment.

Once you have completed your training session, you must access your plan and enter feedback on your parameters. To do this, you will need to access your plan through the TRAINING tab in the bottom menu on the screen and go to the specific session you have performed. Clicking on GIVE FEEDBACK will open a tab where you can send us your feelings either by completing a series of parameters manually or linking an activity from your heart rate monitor or favourite device.

To synchronise a session recorded with Garmin, Polar, Suunto or Strava you must click on the PARTICIPATE button and select the device or application you want. On following the indications we will give you, you will have to accept the relevant permissions so you can select the specific session to be added. Once you have done so, you will see that the race data will be updated instantaneously. Please note, you can only upload one session per day.

To edit any data or information in your profile, simply go to the MY RUNNER FILE section, available in the drop-down menu at the top left, scroll down to the bottom and click on the blue EDIT button. Once the changes are made, click on SAVE, and all the changes will be modified instantly.

The Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet is something you can experience alone or with friends from your club. There will be a ranking by categories and by running club or team. However, there will be no trophies for the top finishers.

The ranking for the Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet virtual race can be found in the VIRTUAL section of the bottom menu, in the left-hand corner. While, information regarding the ROAD TO Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet challenges, including the rankings, will be available on the screen for each challenge. In both cases, the ranking will not appear until the entry period opens.

No medical certificate or stress test is required to participate in the virtual challenge. However, the organisers recommend you have regular medical check-ups and take a stress test at least once every two years.

In addition, you must comply with the safety measures imposed by the health authorities in the place where you are going to run the Maratón Valencia Virtual 4 The Planet and those established in the Race Regulations, which you must accept in order to register and participate.

Yes, to record an activity as a training session or race you can do so by accessing the GPS tab in the bottom left corner of the screen. Once you have logged your activity, you can view your race data from there, and have a record of the training or outings you have been doing in the run-up to the race.
