8,400 runners already signed up for Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Half Marathon

1 September, 2015

The Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Marathon, organized by the Correcaminos Athletics Club, continues to demonstrate why it is one of the top European Half Marathons. As of the first of September there are 8,400 runners signed up to take part in of the one most important races in the calendar. It looks like Valencia will once again beat its previous year’s number of participants, this is all the more special as in 2015 we celebrate the 25th edition of the event on the 18th of October 2015.

The rise in numbers for the Valencia Half Marathon is staggering, if we compare the amount of registered runners to the same date last year, we have an increase of 42%. That’s an amazing 2,400 more runners than the same date last year. We still have one more month until the event, where the start line on Avenida del Puerto will be buzzing with a great mix of national and international runners hoping to get their PBs on the beautiful (and very flat!) 21.097.5 meter course.

Of the 10,460 runners that glided through the Valencian tree lined avenues in 2014, the Kenyan Abraham Cheroben finished with a time of 58’48’’. This was the fastest half marathon ever ran on Spanish soil. At the end of the season this time turned out to be the fastest time for a half marathon in the world and was the sixth fastest half marathon in history.

Runners from all over the World.

Valencia has become an international affair and is well known around the world. Just over 15% of the runners are from outside of Spain. With it’s blue skies, flat course and moderate temperatures, la ciudad del running has become a big success with the international crowd. Over 500 runners from Holland and 400 from Italy make up the biggest component from any single country. Holland and Italy may have the biggest contingents but more than 42 countries will be represented at the event in October.

Many international running clubs come to Valencia to compete alongside elite athletes and Spanish runners from Valencia and all over Spain. At the event you will meet runners from Madrid, Barcelona and nearly every region in Spain. Over 800 runners come from Madrid alone to run with the 5000 Valencian runners, and of course our dedicated and very loud local crowd who will keep your feet moving until you cross the finish line.
