210 support points to spur runners on to the Finishing Line

The City of Valencia had a field day at today’s Marathon Party. The 24,541 athletes and amateur runners who took part in either the Marathon or the 10-kilometre race were spurred on to the Finishing Line by 210 support points.

For the fourth year in a row, Valencia has brought together two big ‘parties’ the ‘Falla’ associations and the Marathon, through the Running ‘Fallero’ (sic) [‘Falla’ association members running in the trial]. As well as the close on 600 ‘Falla’ members running in the race, the associations also cheered on the runners from 27 support points dotted along the 42,195 metres of Spain’s fastest route for this event.

In addition, the Fundación Trinidad Alfonso [foundation] celebrated its fifth anniversary with the Valencia Marathon. Hundreds of people joined in at the support points at Plaça de Tetuan to cheer on the runners at Kilometer 5 of Valencia’s 10-km race and Kilometer 28 of the Marathon. They also took part in The Marathon Party with entertainment and activities laid on by: CaixaBank; Coca-Cola; Renault; Valencia Basket [basketball club]; Villarreal CF [football club]; el Corredor Mediterráneo; The Confucius Institute, Universitat de València; EMT València [Public Transport Authority]; Junta Central Fallera [‘Fallas’ Federation].
