Run for the rights of children

25 October, 2016

The 36th edition of the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon will be held on the 20th of November. This is a well-known date for the runners community. However, something that most people might not know is that this edition is particularly significant since the 27th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) will take place on that very same day. This coincidence is also special for the runners who take part in the race because they will support ANAR Foundation, which works tirelessly for the welfare of children and it is the charity chosen by the Valencia Marathon in 2016.

ANAR Foundation received 18,234 calls from children and teenagers only in the Valencian Community in 2015, in addition to 689 calls made to their adult and family helpline. Answering all of them in an effective way is essential for the Foundation because they are committed to providing information, resolving doubts and providing legal, social and psychological counselling in cases where minors find themselves at risk.

More and more people have sought their help over the past years. In fact, the number of cases that ANAR Foundation had to handle in 2015 increased by 20.7% compared to the cases they handled in 2014. Sadly, violence against children and teenagers represents more than half of the cases they deal with. What’s more, cases have not only increased in number but also in severity.

Hence, marathoners can find extra motivation when training to cross the finish line after running the fascinating 42,195 metre race in the City of Running, since they will also be defending the rights of children. They can all help ANAR Foundation with their registration and taking part in the marathon parallel activities, such as Break Fast Run, Valencia Mapfre Mini Marathon and Impuls-a València. In addition, the race organizer, Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, will donate one extra euro for each runner who crosses the finish line.

Those interested in showing their commitment to this good cause once the Valencia Marathon finishes, can do so by contacting ANAR Foundation on the following phones 917 262 700 and 687 511 246, or on their website www.anar.org.
