Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon has been awarded with the IAAF’s

17 January, 2013

The certificate of quality helps the event to place itself among the best marathons in Europe

The 2013 Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon, which is organized by the Valencia City Hall and the SD Correcaminos, has been awarded with the IAAF’s (International Association of Athletics Federations) Bronze Label. After the success of last 18th of November 2012, the certificate helps Valencia to place itself among the European top long-distance races.

The IAAF assesses the quality of a race by honouring it with its Gold Label, Silver Label or Bronze Label. Most races don’t usually have any of them. Paco Borao, president of the Marathon’s Steering Committee and AIMS, was quoted saying “Such award is the best introduction possible to the Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon.” The factors taken into account are exclusively about the quality of the race; more specifically, competitiveness, number of competitors, media impact, and international promotion of the event.

The race has experienced exponential growth in the last three seasons. Now the Bronze Label encourages the development of personal values such as a strong work ethic and improves the event’s social and sports quality. “This recognition forces us not only to maintain, but also to improve the quality of the race. We will do just as well in the next years, or we will do better,” said Paco Borao
