The Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon will take to the streets

13 November, 2013

The Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon will take to the streets of the city on November 17. An unmissable appointment already consolidated in the calendar of national and international marathons. The renewed Valencian course is presented for runners as the great opportunity to break their best record, enjoy a fantastic route, with a spectacular start and a magical finish line over the water of the City of Arts and Sciences.

The reference time has been set by Kosgei Isaiah Kiplagat, who placed the Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon in a second position in the national ranks with a time of 2:07:59. The national record to be broken is currently held by the Barcelona Marathon with a time of 2:07:30.

For this 2013, the marathon multiplies the opportunities: On the sporting side, breaking the record is once again the main objective. In fact, all eyes are on the excellent line-up of elite athletes who will compete in the race. Meanwhile, regarding amateur runners, these marathoners know that in the streets of Valencia they have a good chance to break their own record. Together with the extraordinary weather conditions are the flat roads of the course -even flatter this year due to the elimination of the tunnels- and the final walk through the streets of downtown as an attractive zone. Added to this is the attractiveness to tourists linked to both the old town and the Marina Real Juan Carlos I and City of Arts and Sciences.

Participation is again one of the strengths of the event. It is expected to welcome a human wave of more than 19,000 runners (11,300 marathoners). This is a good sign of interest and impact in national and international athletics calendars. In fact, a clear sign of the internationality of the event is that about 23 % of the registrations are foreign runners. A guarantee that makes that the Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon reaffirms its constant growth, placing itself as the great sporting, touristic and social event of the city.

This great growth lies in two issues. On the one hand, the increasing number of local public every year means that local fans encourage and involve popular runners in the 10K race. On the other hand is the constant international growth thanks to the promotion in sports exhibitions, agreements with tour operators and promotion among clubs of strategic countries.

Involvement of the public

One of the keys to the success of the Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon is due to the involvement and participation of the public. The great tourist attraction during these days will be reflected in the streets with a leading animation, both for athletes and for companions and citizens who will be in the streets of the marathon. Throughout the course will be over 70 animations, more than previous years, for citizens to be part of the party and encourage the marathoners.
