The Valencia City Council and the Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso Zurich, through the ‘Comparte Maratón Valencia – Instalaciones’ project, are set to renovate the facilities at the Estadi del Túria, with an investment of nearly 700,000 euros funded by the marathon.
The track, located in Section III (Tramo III) of the Túria Garden in Valencia, was last resurfaced in 2018. However, the synthetic surface is severely worn down due to heavy use by athletics schools, clubs, recreational runners, and the competitions hosted at this municipal facility.
Track Investment
Specifically, the Valencia Marathon, through the facilities branch of its ‘Comparte Maratón Valencia’ program, will fund the complete replacement of the athletics track’s synthetic surface, representing an investment of over 690,000 euros.
This improvement joins other planned interventions:
-
The Valencia Marathon will purchase a permanent photo-finish system valued at approximately 30,000 euros for all official competitions held at this sports facility.
-
The Valencia City Council will upgrade the overall Estadi del Túria complex, a facility used by more than 27,400 people annually.
Track Closure
The construction work, which began today following the conclusion of the Gay Games Valencia 2026 sports events, will keep the tracks closed for the next few weeks, taking advantage of the summer lull in activity.
Track Opening and Alternatives
Once the track surface is renewed, the facility will return to normal operation at the start of the sports season in September.
Furthermore, during the closure, clubs can use the stadium at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), which was also recently renovated as part of the athletics promotion project led by the Valencia Marathon and Sociedad Deportiva Correcaminos.
“The tracks in Section III are the main hub for training and competition for athletes and athletics schools in centra Valencia. In fact, at he turn of the century, they hosted the finsh line for several editions of the Valencia Marathon. At Correcaminos, we are particularly excited about this project to revitalize a facility that has been serving all Valencians since 1991”, explains the General Manager of SD Correcaminos, Juan Botella.
For her part, the City Councilor for Sports, Rocío Gil, emphasized that “at the Valencia City Council, we are committed to sports events that generate a sporting, social, and economic legacy in our city, and the Valencia Marathon is a perfect example of this.” She added, “with this intervention, we continue to improve our sports facilities in Section III, a key space in the city to keep nurturing young talent and building the ‘City of Running’.
The budget to fund this initiative comes directly from the resources allocated by the Valencia Marathon to the ‘Comparte Maratón Valencia’ project, which has nearly one million euros available for 2026. You can find more information regarding the Comparte Maratón Valencia program at this link.
