VALENCIA EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCIA VALENCIA 145 144 AIMS AIMS ➡ The first week of September, the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races held its XXII World Congress in Estonia, with the country celebrating the Cente- nary of its independence, then giving additional relevance to AIMS event and allowing the 300+ overall attendance to be hosted by the highest level of the country authorities. Tallinn, the lovely capital of this strategic country, was this time receiving an interesting mix of typical tourist visitors with international runners coming to participate in its wide spectrum of race offers from 5K to Marathon… The Congress split the agenda in three main blocks: the mandatory overall Progress Re- port between congresses, given by the President; the specific presentations on current subjects surrounding Marathons and Distance Races; and the election of both the next Congress venue and the 50% of Board directors, this time including the President and the Treasurer of the Association. AIMS President Paco Borao showed the strong and global growth of AIMS and the marathon movement, putting the emphasis on the positive result given to the overall community by the our sport considered nowadays the best worldwide source of physical and mental wellbeing, and calling for the attention of we organizers to ensuring smooth and safe races. Within the same block, AIMS activities were shown by Martha Morales from Mex- ico on Children’s Races, Horst Milde from Berlin spoke about AIMS Museum of Running Marathoneum, Frank Baillie informed on Communications, Makis Asimakopoulos on AIMS-SEGAS Events program performed every year since 2013 in Athens at the occasion of Athens Marathon, the Authentic, and Al Boka reporting last two years Finance status. The second block allowed main subjects like ‘Evaluating hosting sporting events’, ‘The value of the Tallinn Marathon to the city economy’, ‘Making the Most of Marketing: In- creasing Women’s Participation in Running Events’, ‘Writing the philosophy of building sustainability into the DNA of the event’,‘Safety-security planning and implementation at the Chicago Marathon’, and ‘Endurance Medicine Outcomes Vs Global Weather Changes, all these made by well-known specialized international speakers.
