Statements from the protagonists of the 2025 Valencia Marathon

7 December, 2025

Joyciline Jepkosgei, Marathon Valencia winner

“I had prepared very well and, from the start, I knew it could be a great day. The crowd cheers a lot and it’s a real boost. I’m very happy because Valencia has treated me well again and for achieving the best world time of the year. The course is perfect for achieving great times, as I already demonstrated in the 2017 Half Marathon.”

John Korir, Marathon Valencia winner

“In the second part of the race, I decided to take risks and test myself to see how far I could go. When I broke away, I felt strong and realized I could run at a 2:02 pace. That’s why I made up time in the final kilometers. Why not try for the world record in Valencia next year?”

Meritxell Soler, first Spanish female athlete

“Lowering my personal best by one minute and 10 seconds is a dream come true. I want to thank my pacers, who helped me a lot in the final part.”

Ibrahim Chakir, first Spanish male athlete

I had several goals. The first was to set a personal best. And whenever you achieve a personal best in a marathon, you are very happy. Valencia is very special, the atmosphere is fantastic, the crowd carries you along. Valencia is, indeed, the city of running.”

Juan Roig, president of Fundación Trinidad Alfonso

“Very satisfied. We have achieved a great marathon, which is also sustainable on its own. I’m very happy with the spectacular number of 36,000 runners. We apologize to the citizens for the inconvenience it causes, but I believe it’s worth it for everything it represents and contributes to Valencia. Regarding whether the world record will ever be broken here, I always say that when you always have the brush in your hand, someday it can happen.”

Paco Borao, president of SD Correcaminos

“We always aspire to be bigger, but we don’t want to lose an ounce of the quality and level we have reached. I highlight the wide range of nationalities. Whoever comes here comes to paradise, both because of the surroundings and the characteristics of the course.”
