The new record in Half Marathon makes Valencia the fastest city in Spain

Valencia Half Marathon Trinidad Alfonso, organized by SD Correcaminos, has become the fastest ever on Spanish soil, the sixth best world record in history and the fastest ever in 2014. Abraham Cheroben, who was among the favourites in man’s category, has registered 58:48, 38 seconds faster than former records in national territory held by Granollers Half Marathon. In woman’s category, Kenyan Emily Muge has also beaten the record of the Valencia circuit with 1h08:01, another international record and one of the fastest ever in Spain.

Therefore, the Valencian race establishes itself in the international marathons calendar as an unavoidable appointment, with a favourable circuit to reach reference sport records.

Race pace was terrible; Kisorio, out of control, recorded 27:41 in the 10th kilometre. This fast race was thought to reach the World record along 10,000. Just in that section of the race starts a steep slope until kilometre 16, a circumstance that has not stopped Abraham Cheroben to reach 41:30 in kilometre 15, one of the three best records set in history, which became strengthen with 58:48, record that has been reached in the finish line and has allowed other athletes to lower their records less than an hour.

Regarding national runners, David Solis, Bikila runner with 1h05:28, has been the first national man athlete to finish, while the Spanish Elena Espeso has been the first woman to cross the finish line of the Valencia Half Marathon Trinidad Alfonso with 1h13:02.

The best record on Spanish soil of the Half Marathon joins the Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso record obtained in November 2013 and, therefore, Valencia has become the fastest city in Spain.

Solidarity of € 9,372 for the Spanish Association against Cancer (AECC)

One of the supportive actions of the Valencia Half Marathon has been the contribution of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation of one euro per runner reaching the finish line. A reward to the effort that has gathered € 9,372 in favour of the Spanish Association against Cancer, supportive entity in the race for this 2014 edition which coincided with the commemoration of the World Day Against Breast Cancer.

Valencia supports its Half Marathon

One of the keys for success in sports and of the participation of the Valencia Half Marathon Trinidad Alfonso has been public involvement and participation. Along the Half Marathon circuit, public support has helped to outpace the race once more. Citizens could enjoy amusements that make them participate in the event and support the runners. As an innovation, this year ‘fallas’ have gained prominence thanks to the amusement contest ‘Running Fallero’.
