The essence of the Valencia Marathon: 1,350 golden volunteers

14 November, 2016

Organizing such a big event as a long-distance race is only possible with the help of volunteers, who work really hard and do not expect anything in exchange. The organizers of the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon are aware of this fact and that is why we want to express our gratitude to the 1,350 volunteers who will work at the marathon on the 20th of November.

We will also like to thank S.D. Correcaminos and all five universities in Valencia – University of Valencia, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Valencia Catholic University Saint Vincent Martyr, CEU Cardinal Herrera University and European University of Valencia – as well as the Sports Volunteer Office of the Local Sports Foundation (FDM Valencia) and EDEM Business School for joining our recruitment campaing.

The campaign slogan, ‘You make the marathon possible’, aims at encouraging the participation of volunteers and wants to emphasize the valuable work that they carry out in the sports event. We have also started an official hashtag, #YoSoyVoluntario (‘I am a volunteer’), which also intends to recognize the value of their work and increase their visibility in the social networks.

They perform tasks which are as important as giving out bib numbers and runner’s bags in Expodeporte, replying to all the questions runners might have in the race or providing them with refreshments, among others. For that reason, besides giving nine recruitment talks, the organizers have trained volunteers and taught them basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The first edition of the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon with a Gold Label can be very proud of having such a great team of volunteers who are as valuable as gold itself. Besides, the organizers also wanted to settle an outstanding debt so volunteers will be able to travel by bus for free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday thanks to an agreement entered with the local bus company, EMT. They deserve it because they never lack enthusiasm or commitment whenever they have to help runners or work to make this race possible.
